The DLP® Digital Micromirror Device is probably the world's most sophisticated light switch.  It can contain a rectangular array of up to 2.21 million hinge-mounted microscopic mirrors (2K); each of these micromirrors measures less than one-fifth the width of a human hair.

Unlike competing technologies, the thousands of pixel elements (mirrors) that make up the DMD are spaced less than one micron apart.  By minimizing the gap between pixels in a projected image, Christie's DLP® projectors create a seamless digital picture that is sharp at any size.
