Christie Solutions Help Drive Innovation at Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise

Lafayette, Louisiana, one of the fastest growing high-tech hubs in the U.S. To complement this desire to offer high tech solutions the Lafayette Economic Development Authority engaged Christie and SGI to assist in the build of an advanced 3D immersive visualization and supercomputing facility.

The city’s objective was to create a state-of-the-art collaborative environment for a vast range of user communities in scientific research, higher education, government, and commercial industry. The facility cost $27 million to construct and today it is one of the largest Immersive Technology facilities in the world.  The endeavor required a tight integration and coordination with the architectural, trade and partner components. Christie teamed up with SGI, providing integration expertise and technology solution required to distribute the remote Prism IG sources through customized fiber distribution and switching components.  Christie also worked with the prime contractor, the architect and the general contractor throughout the entire project to help install a diverse range of Christie products and projectors in Immersive conference rooms and theatres at the facility.  Since its opening, LITE has proven to be a major cornerstone for future growth and economic development in Lafayette and Louisiana, whose impact is being felt on the global stage.

Providing access to leading edge VR design and decision making technologies

The project’s mission was to provide access to leading edge VR design and decision-making technologies to local businesses and the general public.  It would enable users to collaborate and interact in real-time with even the most complex of datasets, capabilities that were previously available only to large corporations.

For Christie, the endeavor was a complex one from the start, requiring tight coordination of a wide range of aspects, from structural to technical and beyond.  Christie teamed up with SGI, planning for the space even before the ground was broken, to design the various types of visual systems, power requirements, cooling, ingress, egress, etc.
