IV / PICC Teams

IV / PICC Teams

Patients may fall into the difficult venous access category for a number of reasons.

IV and PICC teams are some of the top vascular access experts in the hospital. These nurses are called in to perform venipuncture on the most challenging patients. Patients may fall into the difficult venous access category for a number of reasons.

Factors contributing to difficult venous access (DVA):

  • Size and fragility of vessels
  • Dehydration
  • Hypertension
  • Multiple disease states
  • Frequent or lengthy infusions
  • Skin tone
  • Edema or fatty tissue

Further challenges for the IV/PICC team:

  • Multiple requests may pile up creating great demands on the IV team and keeping them from the most serious, higher acuity, patient needs.
  • A patient may have already been stuck several times before the IV team was called causing the patient additional pain and limiting the options left for the IV team nurse.
  • Treatment is further delayed for the patient until the IV team can get there.

VeinViewer® is peer reviewed and clinically proven to improve the success of vascular access procedures.
