Christie cinema technology make a big impression at Mexico’s National Film Theatre

MEXICO CITY - (May 29, 2018) - The Christie® CP4230 projector is playing a lead role at the retrospective season Cineteca Nacional de México (Mexico’s National Film Theatre) is currently dedicating to the US filmmaker Wes Anderson, screening his complete filmography. Installed in the cinema’s main theater, Sala 1, the projector was used to screen Isle of Dogs (2018) which opened the season scheduled and runs from May 18 to 31.

Cineteca Nacional is an institution founded in 1974 with a mandate to preserve, catalog, and exhibit and promote film in Mexico. With a total of ten theaters plus an open-air forum, it covers an area of 29,000 square meters and is visited by over one million people every year.

The institution purchased a Christie CP4230 4K digital cinema projector (4096 x 2160 pixels) for its largest hall, which is equipped with an 11.6 x 6 meters screen and seats 360 people.

Victor Flores Rodríguez, Cineteca’s Chief Technical Officer, explained why he chose this particular projector, “The Christie CP4230’s 4K native resolution means that we can exhibit the whole range of current digital cinema. In addition, we have the reassurance of a world leading brand that is widely used in commercial establishments and also, as in our case, cultural theatres.”

Flores Rodríguez also underscored what, for him, are the projector’s top features. “Its main strong points are its 4K native resolution and the size of its DMD, at just 1.4”, and of course the Texas Instruments DLP® technology it uses, as well as its compatibility with digital cinema servers. And, more importantly, it is absolutely reliable for continuous use. I would say it is a truly trustworthy projector, with minimal maintenance and very easy and simple to adjust.”

Sala 1, where the Christie CP4230 projector operates, is used to screen various seasons of Mexican and international films, as well as for cultural and multimedia events. A large part of the films screened in this theater have been restored and converted into 4K format by Cineteca’s Digital Restoration Laboratory.

Cineteca’s chief technical officer noted the excellent training and back-up support that Christie gives to its clients and partners in Mexico. “We are lucky that Christie offers a certification programme for service engineers here in Mexico, as this has given us a chance to get the maximum from our projector, to know how it operates and to spot and identity any issues before they escalate, not to mention the fact that we can rely on direct support from Christie’s training engineers in Mexico.”

Ernesto Armus, director of Christie in Mexico, is delighted that such a prestigious cultural organisation as Cineteca Nacional has a Christie cinema projector in its main theatre. “We are really happy that audiences at Cineteca Nacional can enjoy the highest screening quality when viewing the films of a director of the stature of Wes Anderson and, indeed, of all the seasons the national film theater puts on show in its main hall.”

Armus concluded that “Christie is fully committed to innovation and to offering our clients the best possible cinema-going experience, whether they be big multiplexes, film clubs, independent theaters, festivals, drive-ins or postproduction companies. Christie provides them with the same level of commitment and dedication. We are in a position to offer them the technology best suited to their individual needs for screening cinema and alternative contents in 2K, 4K and in 3D, for standard or large format screens.”

The Wes Anderson season at Cineteca includes the screening of the director’s nine feature-length films and one short. The celebrated US filmmaker has been nominated for six Oscars and he recently won the Silver Bear for Best Director for Isle of Dogs at the Berlin International Film Festival.
