Diego López Joins Christie as its New General Manager for Latin America North


Bogotá, Colombia - (February 24, 2016) - Christie®​, a leader in creating and delivering the world’s best visual and audio experiences, is pleased to announce the appointment of Diego Fernando López V​illamil as general manager of NOLA (Northern Latin America), a newly created post based in Bogotá, Colombia, where Christie is opening a new office later in 2016.

Diego’s appointment is part of Christie’s overall expansion in Latin America, which encompasses the creation of two new large commercial areas: NOLA, which covers Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and the Caribbean, and SOLA (Southern Latin America), which covers Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina with Jorge García at the helm in Santiago de Chile for SOLA.

Along with these two areas, Christie also has offices in Brazil and in Mexico, which were opened in 2013 and 2015 respectively. The new structure was necessitated by the increasing demand for Christie’s solutions, products and services, and Christie’s desire to provide its customers and partners with closer, better and more efficient service. This includes an enlarged support team to guarantee faster response times, testifying to the company’s long-term commitment to growing business in Latin America.

Christie’s Business Grows in Latin America
Diego López joins Christie after 13 years’ experience in the IT sector. He started out working with Epson, where he held several different posts during his seven years with the company, including regional manager of the consumer products division in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Central America and the Caribbean. Afterwards, he moved to Lexmark as business development manager in Colombia. Diego graduated as an industrial engineer from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia where he also earned an MBA.

One of Diego’s mandates is to strengthen the network of Christie partners in NOLA by redesigning and expanding its distribution channel with a particular focus on the specialization of distributers and the development of new incentive programs to encourage loyalty with the channel.

Over recent years, Colombia, from where Diego will be managing the whole region, has built a reputation as a major destination for organizing world-class events. As Juan Carlos Chávez explained, “Colombia is one of the top destinations in Latin America for international conventions, congresses and events, and that means that its rental & staging sector is extremely healthy.” A good example is the spectacular projection mappings staged regularly by companies like Big Video and Vinilolab in the country’s main cities.

“Apart from that, the region also has great potential in the market for monitoring and security control rooms for corporations and organizations, where we offer our displays, video walls, controllers and collaboration solutions,” said Chávez. “And that’s without mentioning cinema, where Christie has just signed an agreement with Cine Colombia – the country’s main exhibitor – to equip its new theaters with projectors from the Christie Solaria™ Series and Christie Vive Audio™ sound systems.”

Another landmark for Christie in Colombia is the recent installation of a Christie® MicroTiles®​​ video wall in the newsroom at Caracol TV, the country’s leading television network. Colombia is also the site for Tecnomultimedia InfoComm Colombia, to be held October 11-13 with Christie as an exhibitor. Christie’s new Bogotá office will include a showroom as well as spaces for training and technical services.
