Conserving water at Christie headquarters in California

In 2014, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) of California issued an emergency regulation for statewide water conservation. The regulation covers both home and business activities including outdoor landscaping and irrigation.

In response to this regulation, Christie® office in Cypress, California established a new environmental management program with a target of 16% irrigation water reduction compared to the 2013 baseline data.

Christie upgraded the smart timer irrigation controllers at the facility with two-way communication, restricting outdoor irrigation to two days a week between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. to meet this regulation.

This change is in addition to other changes Christie initiated as far back as 2009 when weather-based irrigation controllers were installed at Cypress building locations. These devices automatically adjust the landscape watering time and frequency in response to the changing weather.

The results have been excellent. Water usage has been reduced by an average of 53%.
