CYPRESS, CA - (August 22, 2006) - Christie, a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, will play a leading role at the 58th Primetime Emmy® awards, helping the renowned awards show go high tech by powering the primary playback screen on-stage as well as two additional side screens, using the latest generation of Christie digital projectors. Front and center is the highlight of the show’s new design, a striking 20’ x 35’ rear projection screen. The awards telecast will air live on Sunday, August 27, 2006, on NBC Television, from the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium. It will be hosted by NBC’s Late Night star Conan O'Brien.
Designed by John Shaffner, who is also First Vice Chair of the Television Academy, and his partner Joe Stewart of Production Design by Shaffner/Stewart, the Emmy’s three main screens will all be illuminated by the Christie Roadie and Roadster series of projectors. The main screen will utilize three Christie Roadie 25K projectors that feature the latest generation3-chip DLP® technology. With 2048 x 1080 resolution, 25,000 ANSI lumens and 10-bit image processing, the images are sharp and brilliant, perfect for high-ambient situations.
A total of eight Christie Roadsters S+16K projectors will light up two additional projection screens – a 22-1/2’ x 30’ screen, as well as a 30’ x 40’ screen – which will provide imaginative and visually engaging collages to enhance the awards presentations. Compact and purpose-built for the rigors of large venues, these3-Chip Christie DLP projectors offer SXGA+ resolution and a powerful 16,000 ANSI lumens that has led industry experts to proclaim it “one of the world’s best projectors.”
The projectors and support equipment will be installed by Norm Levin & Company, which has been providing projection and technical services for entertainment, industry and large venues for over 30 years. “One of the many challenges for the production team each year is creating a new look, one that is as unique as the production itself,” noted Norm Levin, president of Norm Levin & Company. “The industry demands dynamic images that are larger and have more impact to satisfy a public that has become visually sophisticated. Working with the design team, one challenge we face is to achieve the large image they want with a shorter throw distance. I choose Christie projectors because of their bright, high contrast images and because their new technologies afford us the controls we require for large venue presentations. In addition, having used Christie products for over 15 years, I know that I can count on Christie for superior technical support.”
“The Emmy Awards® are a tribute to the best in television. We’re pleased that Norm Levin & Company selected Christie to help realize the vision of the Emmy through the latest in digital projection technology,” said Gary Fuller, vice-president of Business Products at Christie. “Emmy night is a time for stars to shine, and we’re proud that Christie projectors will be there to help them shine their brightest.”
