BEIJING – (Aug 23, 2011) – Christie®, a global leader in digital cinema projection, has experienced remarkable growth, recorded several milestones and reinforced its status as a leader in the cinema and film industry in China in only 10 years.
“By the time Christie established its first office in China in 2001, Christie was already a major player in the cinema projection industry, particularly in North America. It was only in 2002 that our sales focus in China expanded to include digital cinema projectors,” recalled Frank Xiao, general manager, Christie China.
Christie showcased the Christie DCP-H digital cinema projector, based on a proven cinema console design using Texas Instruments’ m15 technology, for the first time in China in 2002. The following year saw Christie’s first installation of the Christie DCP-H digital cinema projector at Shanghai Yonghua Cinema.
“As Christie China’s sales expanded by 40 percent in the last decade, so have the number of digital cinema projectors we have installed across China, which, by 2011, has already reached 2,500 units,” continued Xiao. “Our list of customers includes prestigious state-owned enterprises such as China Film Group, Shanghai Film Group United Cinema Line, Time Antaeus, as well as wholly owned private enterprises including Shimao Group, Wanda Cinema Group and Lianzhong Group. In particular, 2011, Christie’s tenth year anniversary in China, has been especially propitious, as it has seen one of our largest sales in digital cinema projectors in a single period.”
In 2011, Christie China has concluded purchase agreements with Wanda Cinema Group for 350 projectors, Beijing Time Antaeus Technology Co. Ltd, for 310 projectors, Shanghai Film Group United Cinema Line for 200 projectors, Shimao Group and Henan Oscar Film Group for 100 projectors each, and Beijing Galloping Horse Film Group for nine projectors.
In line with this growth trajectory, Christie set up a factory and R&D center in Shenzhen, China, in November 2010 and will establish a 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) in 2011. The all-new NOC will be the first such center in China.
“Christie has increased the breadth and depth of our leading position in the digital cinema projection business in China this past decade, especially in the last couple of years. We will continue to strengthen our leading role in this area through three main pillars: our commitment to technological innovations, the investments we will make in our resources and our people in China, as well as the technical and service quality standards we bring to our customers. The many innovations, including the latest in 4K digital cinema projection that Christie brings to the Chinese market, as well as our investments in establishing a manufacturing and R&D center, and a NOC, within 24 months of each other are testimony of our commitment to the Chinese market. It is our belief that through a diligent application of our three pillars of success, Christie will remain a first choice brand for cinema operators in China,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific.
