CYPRESS, CA – (August 18, 2004) – Christie, a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced that Paramount Parks has installed the Christie CP2000 digital cinema projector at five locations throughout the U.S. and Canada as part of “Paramount’s Magic of the Movies Live”, an interactive family attraction that has proven a big hit since opening day of the 2004 season. The locations include Paramount’s Carowinds in Charlotte, North Carolina; Paramount’s Kings Dominion in Richmond, Virginia; Paramount’s Kings Island in Cincinnati, Ohio; Paramount’s Great America in Santa Clara, California; and Paramount Canada’s Wonderland near Toronto, Ontario.
Offering the highest resolution available commercially today, the Christie CP2000 is part of the popular show whose lively special effects plunge audiences into a behind-the-scenes look at some of Paramount Pictures’ blockbuster films. Since opening day in 2004, the attraction has played to capacity crowds totaling approximately 100,000 guests, with several hundred thousand more expected before the season’s end.
“Paramount’s Magic of the Movies Live” integrates the Christie CP2000 digital cinema projector into a 25-minute show that is presented up to five times daily, demonstrating the various techniques used in movie production. The projector delivers high definition video content that includes movie trailers, historical footage and cinema shorts. Because it screens the widest range of digital content, including computer-based presentations and DVDs, it is also used for employee events, meetings, and other corporate and marketing functions. The projector is controlled remotely over a network IP device using the built-in ChristieNet™ networking module.
Christie’s partner, Electrosonic of California, provided the Christie CP2000 to work with Electrosonic’s HD Server, Mediasonic 9200, currently used as the High-Def source for all “Paramount’s Magic of the Movies Live”.
“We selected the Christie CP2000 after much research and viewing demos at several recent trade shows. The projector’s exceptional image quality was the deciding factor,” remarked David Reitterer, director, entertainment technology, Paramount Parks, Inc. “No other digital projector impressed us to the extent that the Christie CP2000 did. In fact, we were so impressed, we purchased seven of them. Five are being used in this show at the five parks. The other two are used at our new Star Trek® Borg Invasion 4D™ attraction at the Las Vegas Hilton.”
Reitterer added, “Christie service and technical support has also been very good. We plan to purchase additional projectors in the coming years as we upgrade our technology in all our parks, and Christie products will definitely top the list for our consideration.”
“The Christie CP2000 digital projector has proven exceptionally popular since its introduction, gaining fans across a wide spectrum of markets beyond cinema, including research and post production, because it offers the highest resolution available commercially today,” noted Jack Kline, president and COO, Christie USA. “Theme parks are another exciting venue where the projector’s superior image quality and vibrant colors are proving to be a perfect complement to such highly interactive attractions as ‘Paramount’s Magic of the Movies Live.’”
