Cypress, CA – (January 13, 2003) – Christie announces the formation of the Cinema Systems Group, a new business unit that will offer the cinema industry affordable and flexible turnkey solutions for on-screen advertising, pre-show entertainment, alternative content and in-lobby digital displays. Working closely with theater exhibitors, the group will provide services that include the full systems integration of film projection, digital cinema projection and networking devices. The Cinema Systems Group will develop application-specific technologies that include hardware, software, and management systems to combine digital projectors with the ultimate in networked control and monitoring from a centralized location.
Christie’s Cinema Systems Group will draw upon its strength in adapting projection and networking applications to give exhibitors enhanced entertainment possibilities and revenue generating opportunities. It will provide a one-stop shopping solution that simplifies the purchase, installation and deployment of networked interface devices such as plasma panels and LCD-based projectors. Exhibitors can purchase Christie’s complete range of systems and services that includes full integration with existing infrastructure, or chose from an extensive menu of high performance equipment, components and services, including Christie’s DCP-H, DLP cinema™ projection systems.
Among Christie’s Cinema Systems Group’s growing list of customers is Regal CineMedia (RCM), the world’s largest cinema exhibitor. Christie recently participated in the industry’s first successful networked multiple projector integrated solution at RCM’s pilot theater in Denver, Colorado where the exhibitor’s networking command center supports RCM’s vast on-screen advertising network that will cover over 4,500 screens. The customized system is comprised of Christie Roadrunner L6 digital projectors controlled by the ChristieNET™ networking module to enable monitoring and control of multiple projectors over a LAN. It also includes the installation of Christie plasma panels and other components for RCM’s in-lobby digital displays.
In addition to National Cinema Network (NCN), a wholly owned subsidiary of AMC Theatres Inc., utilizing Christie LCD based digital projectors, the Cinema Systems Group is providing service and maintenance support for 165 AMC theatre screens within the United States that are equipped with NCN’s Digital Theatre Distribution System® (DTDS®).
