CYPRESS, CA – (August 5, 2004) – Christie, a leading provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced the installation of six Christie P35GPSL-AT 35mm gearless film projectors at the newest Xtreme Cinemas Multiplex theater in the town of San Luis Rio Colorado, near Mexicali, Mexico. Equipped with the latest in projection and sound technology, the $4.1 million (US), six-screen complex utilizes Christie film projectors and a full array of Christie equipment.
The Christie P35GPSL-AT film projector features Christie’s award winning sealed Ultramittent™, automatic lens and aperture changers. The six theaters contain Christie Xenolite™ consoles, Christie Autowind™ platters and in-lobby display systems featuring Christie digital projectors. Xtreme Cinemas has also announced plans to build additional multiplexes in Tijuana, among other cities in Mexico, which will incorporate similar infrastructures and use Christie projection systems.
The new Xtreme Cinemas in San Luis Rio Colorado features six theaters with stadium seating, a snack bar and cafeteria, interactive attractions and video games. It seats 1,200 patrons per showing and attracts over 4,500 moviegoers per day. The complex offers parking for almost 300 cars, making it the most sophisticated entertainment center in town. The theater, which screens first-run movies, sold 28,000 tickets in its first week.
“Xtreme Cinemas is a company with serious expansion plans in Mexico – and standardization is a key element in the equation,” stated Rogelio De Los Santos, director of Xtreme Cinemas. “We installed Christie film projection systems in all our theaters, including the 10-screen Xtreme Cinemas in the town of Tuxtla Gutierrez in Mexico, which opened last year. That theater attracts audiences of about 30,000 per week, one of the highest per-screen ratios in the country. Christie products have proven to be rugged and reliable to withstand the rigors of continued operation. More importantly, the company’s technical expertise and on site service is among the best. Christie completed the installation of our projection booths in record time to help us meet our deadlines.”
De Los Santos attributes the success of Xtreme Cinemas to the chain’s policy of treating all their customers like special guests. “We reach out to them, creating an enriching experience for every single one of our patrons. Our top quality infrastructure provides the backdrop for our continued growth, but our dedicated staff is responsible for making sure we succeed every day.”
“Xtreme Cinemas is one of the latest generation of multiplexes whose use of modern cinema technologies is leading a resurgence in the industry,” remarked Craig Sholder, VP, Business Development, Cinema, Christie Digital Systems, Inc. USA. “They have entered the Mexican market with a very aggressive growth strategy, recognizing the needs of the market and providing customers with quality entertainment. The fact that Xtreme Cinemas considers Christie film projectors the only projector of choice speaks to the reliability of our products and the comprehensive customer service we provide all our customers. We are pleased that Xtreme Cinemas considers Christie an essential partner in their roadmap to success.”
