CYPRESS, CA – (August 22, 2006) – Christie, a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, is the exclusive supplier of Digital Cinema projectors for the 31st Toronto International Film Festival® (TIFF), September 7 – 16, 2006. Christie will provide the Festival with digital projectors which will screen over eighty digital titles over the course of the Festival. Among the projectors to be featured are Christie CP2000 Digital Cinema projectors – the projector of choice for studios, exhibitors and post production houses around the world.
The Toronto International Film Festival Group (TIFFG), which organizes the annual TIFF has earned a reputation as a leader not only within the Canadian film industry but also on an international level. TIFF offers filmmakers at all levels of accomplishments an unprecedented opportunity for exposure to international media, distributors, producers and buyers, making it one of the most important film festivals in the world. With over 80 percent of the movies making their world or international premieres at TIFF, industry observers consider the Festival an early barometer for new directions in cinema.
“The Toronto International Film Festival once again confidently sets the standard for exceptional digital presentation through its long standing partnership with Christie Digital Systems, the front runner in Digital Cinema projection worldwide. We greatly value our relationship with Christie and will take their leading edge technology into more Festival venues this year than ever before,” noted Natalie Lue, director of operations and theatres, TIFFG.
“Digital technology is the future of our industry. The number of entries we received from directors requesting to show their films in high resolution digital format has increased significantly since last year by more than twice the number of titles. Digital technology provides an unprecedented seamlessness to the movie-viewing experience,” noted Andrei Gravelle, technical manager, TIFFG.
Gravelle continued, “It is a great pleasure working with Christie because of the high level of technical support they provide us, guaranteeing a consistent viewing experience to all our audiences and exceeding expectations regardless of the size of the venue.”
“As the leading driver of Digital Cinema technology worldwide, Christie is deeply committed to helping emerging filmmakers around the world,” said Craig Sholder, vice-president of Entertainment Solutions at Christie USA. “TIFF is a major cultural force, playing a key role in determining the future of the moviemaking industry. We consider it a privilege that our digital projectors can play such a critical role in identifying artists and shining a spotlight on the next generation of filmmakers.”
