CYPRESS, CA – (April 16, 2007) – Christie, a leading provider of visual solutions for entertainment, business, and industry, is helping Dr. Phil McGraw enhance the viewing experience for the millions of fans who tune in to his nationally syndicated one-hour series, “The Dr. Phil Show.” The centerpiece of the televised program – a curved screen approximately 8’ by 22’ – is powered by two Christie Roadster S+16K 3-Chip DLP® projectors to produce unbelievably bright images with stunning detail and color depth. It is the first time the show has used sophisticated projection technology on the set.
Integral to the show’s format, the screen is at the center of a large-scale stage design. It is surrounded by smaller screens that fill out the set to create an interactive, multimedia backdrop of images that enhance and support Dr. Phil’s unique presentation and brand of therapy. Among its functions, in addition to displaying the show’s logo, this primary screen displays videos from different cases to help Dr. Phil set up the back-story of his guests.
Erez Ram, co-president of American Hi-Def, which designed and installed the system, observed that he needed the brightest images possible within the limitations of the stage. He chose the Christie Roadster S+16K projector because it features powerful 16,000 ANSI lumens that easily compensate for the studio’s bright, ambient light. Its SXGA+ resolution and 10-bit image processing ensure razor sharp images, which are blended using the projectors’ built-in warping and blending capabilities.
“In addition to brightness levels, the program producers also demanded certain capabilities and special effects that the previous system couldn’t deliver,” he said. “The new Christie projectors met their needs. We worked with set designer Steve Bass to create a visually dynamic stage that exceeded our client’s expectations.”
Ram added: “We have been using Christie projectors for many years. The quality of the products and service we receive from Christie are unsurpassed. Christie’s technicians are very knowledgeable, and they are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure excellent service.”
“American Hi-Def has been a valuable Christie partner for many years, and continues to offer exceptionally innovative and creative designs to fit into a wide range of settings,” said Gary Fuller, vice-president of Business Products at Christie. “Customer service remains at the foundation of the Christie success story, and we are pleased to help Dr. Phil bring his program to a large and enthusiastic national audience.”
