CYPRESS, CA – (JUNE 22, 2006) – Christie, a leading provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced that Disney will be using Christie CP2000 DLP Cinema® projectors for the World Premiere of the summer’s most anticipated movie, Walt Disney Pictures’/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.” Starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, this latest big screen swashbuckling adventure will have a star-studded, World Premiere at Disneyland in California on June 24.
The Premiere will be staged at the entrance to the original attraction that inspired the movie, in a giant outdoor theater, with the image projected onto a 90-foot screen. A celebrity-filled audience of 1,800 guests will watch the film, including cast members from the movie as well as acclaimed director Gore Verbinski, who also directed the original movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” Three Christie CP2000 Digital Cinema projectors will light up the screen, providing an exceptionally bright, razor-sharp image that faithfully renders even the smallest details of the special-effects-filled action-adventure picture.
“We’re proud to be using Christie's state-of-the-art projectors at the World Premiere of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,’” said Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Buena Vista Pictures Distribution. “Our guests will be able to enjoy all of the film’s impressive digital animation and effects, and see a faithful reproduction of the filmmakers’ vision. This Saturday is going to be a spectacular night at Disneyland as we show the latest ‘Pirates’ film in close proximity to the attraction that inspired it, and the Christie projectors will ensure that the moviegoing experience is first-rate all the way.”
“Disney was one of the first major Hollywood studios to install a Christie CP2000 DLP Cinema projector to screen its movies. They were also the first to join Christie in the 4,000 screen Digital Cinema rollout, the world’s first and largest ongoing deployment of Digital Cinema systems,” noted Craig Sholder, vice-president of Entertainment Solutions, Christie USA. “In all of Disney’s many Digital Cinema firsts, Christie DLP Cinema projectors were part of the scene. We are pleased to continue our successful relationship together, bringing the magic of Digital Cinema to audiences around the world.”
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” which opens at theaters everywhere on July 7th, was inspired by Disneyland’s famous Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, which Walt Disney himself was instrumental in creating. The attraction was an instant hit when it opened in 1967 and served as a basis for the immensely popular “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” movie in 2003.
