Christie Roadster S6 Projector Displays Digital Images From Mars

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) Treats Media to Images from Mars Rovers

CYPRESS, CA – (January 30, 2004) – Christie Digital Systems, Inc., a major provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and media, today announced that NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is using the Christie Roadster S6 DLP™ projector for the agency’s daily briefing to the press highlighting the latest digital images of the Martian landscape transmitted by the two NASA rovers Spirit and Opportunity, which landed on the planet recently.

JPL installed the Christie Roadster S6 projector to exhibit these historic transmissions, which are the highest resolution digital images ever received from Mars. In the coming months, the craft will transmit images on an ongoing basis, with JPL holding regular press conferences in the Von Karmen Auditorium in Pasadena, California to display and discuss the images with enthusiastic members of the international press. The rovers will explore the Martian surface, looking for clues in rocks and soil to determine whether the Red Planet ever contained water and was possibly suitable to sustain life.
“Christie congratulates JPL on such an extraordinary and historic achievement, helping to significantly expand our knowledge of Mars. We are highly honored that they have chosen our projector to display the spectacular images coming back from the planet,” said Jack Kline, president and COO, Christie USA.
JPL is using the Christie Roadster S6 projector to display print photography and for general viewing in a high ambient light atmosphere, as well as for videotaped conferences. The projector is used with both High Definition Serial Digital images and standard composite video on a 16:9 aspect screen that is approximately 14ft (4.3m) wide.
Kline noted that the Christie Roadster series of high performance projectors is the projector of choice for medium and large auditoriums, conferences, concerts and large entertainment venues. “The Christie Roadster S6 is recognized worldwide for its high quality, resolution and reliability. JPL is the latest venue to choose this highly versatile projector, which offers one of the most accurate and brilliant digital images in the industry.”
The Christie Roadster S6 recreates more than one billion colors utilizing Texas Instruments’ 3-chip DLP™ technology. Offering full digital capabilities, it delivers a digital signal from source to screen without signal conversion, ensuring a consistent, 100% digitally perfect image.
