Cinemark Converts To Christie SLC Consoles As Part Of Major Energy Conservation Program

Exhibitor to Realize Lower Energy Consumption, Increase Efficiency and Achieve Superior Bulb Performance With Christie Consoles

CYPRESS, CA – (August 25, 2004) – Christie, a leading provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, announced that Cinemark USA, Inc., the nation’s third largest theatre exhibitor, has converted over 80 film consoles to Christie SLC consoles, completing the first phase of a major program aimed at helping Cinemark realize a substantial return on investment. Cinemark is now launching the second phase of conversion of an additional 150 consoles, for a total of more than 225 Christie console installations.
The Christie SLC consoles allow Cinemark to downsize lamp sizes while maximizing output from Xenon lamps through Christie’s computer generated optics reflector design – using unique reflector coatings to prevent film damage by reducing harmful IR energy. The Christie consoles provide the brightest, most uniform light pattern available on the market.
“We chose Christie because we have enjoyed a long term relationship, during which we have developed strong confidence in the quality of their products,” remarked Steve Owen, director of purchasing, Cinemark USA, Inc. “Christie SLC consoles help us achieve better light output while using less wattage. This in turn has helped us lower energy consumption and increase efficiency. By using the higher-efficiency Christie SLC console, we are able to achieve brighter illumination on the screen than the previous supplier's higher wattage 4K unit.”

Owen added: “With the lower cost of lamps, the longer lamp life and the energy savings, it’s a win-win-win situation all around.”

“Christie SLC consoles offer innovative features that have set the standards in the industry,” observed Scott Freidberg, director, cinema sales, Christie. “Incorporated into the Christie SLC series are features not found in other Xenon consoles. These include our patented motorized 3-axis lamp alignment to improve light efficiency when changing formats, and a pre-set automatic bulb focus, actuated when screen format changes from flat to scope.

“We look forward to continuing to provide Cinemark with the high standard of product performance they demand,” said Freidberg.
