PALM EXPO INDIA/MUMBAI – (May 31, 2013) – Christie® and its valued partner, Tricolor India Schauspiel Private Limited, gave a new lease of life to Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial with the aid of six Christie Roadster S+22K-J, ten Christie WX10K-M 3-chip DLP® projectors, Christie Twist™ and Christie AutoStack. Using Christie’s warping and blending technologies, five elements of nature — air, water, fire, earth, and space – present an inspirational 360-degree multimedia projection mapping display representing a tribute to the ninth Sikh guru Tegh Bahadur.
Situated on more than 10 acres on the Delhi-Haryana border in India, the Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial is also an inspiring tourist attraction with a central Obelisk, representing Guru Tegh Bahadur, and three semi-arches representing his three disciples. Ten surrounding monoliths represent the 10 Sikh gurus.
“Opened to the public in 2011, Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial will be injected with a new lease of life with the multimedia show put up by the creative genius of Himanshu Singh Sabharwal, using the high-end technology of projection mapping. Thanks to Christie’s 16 projectors, which work well under all weather conditions, we hope the new look and feel of the memorial ground will attract more tourists to the site. With such a minimalistic architecture available the show is a new benchmark in tourism entertainment. I can proudly say that with this install the city has surpassed a lot of hyped and engaging entertainment options available in some of the more developed countries, ” said Mr. GG Saxena, Managing Director, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation.
“After having introduced the architectural mapping technology at the Old Fort in 2010 with a fully fledged son- et- lumière, when the Delhi Tourism approached me for this site, it was a complete ‘googly’ for me initially. I knew that we could not tell a linear story here or for that matter any story. Also, the client wanted a universal appeal targeting a larger Diaspora of tourists. Then I got this brain wave of creating a musical tribute of ‘kudrat ki chadar’ literally translated as the five elements to the Guru who was fondly called ‘Hind ki Chadar’ or the protective shield of Hind. This lent a fluid experiential, which was the only thing possible here perhaps. Engineered to a very difficult site, I could not have imagined this possible without the Roadsters from Christie,’’ said Himanshu Sabharwal, creative director of Tricolor India Schauspiel.
“Counting on our success of a similar installation of projection mapping at Delhi’s Old Fort of Purana Qila, this is the second time that the Indian tourism sector has engaged our products and service in full confidence. Besides being the first complete outdoor installation of its kind in the region, our installation at Guru Tegh Bahadur Memorial is also the largest permanent projection mapping in the region,” said Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific.
As projection mapping becomes popular for events and venues of attraction, Christie’s projectors, with the embedded technologies of Christie Twist™ and Christie AutoStack, enables smooth warping and edge-blending of images being projected onto irregular-shape ‘screens’ such as buildings, interior spaces and natural landscapes. This serves the needs of the end users to wow their audiences; turning still surfaces into a dynamic video display of 2D and 3D images that can transform reality for the audience into illusions and images of infinite possibilities.
Christie is showcasing its expertise in projection mapping at Booth #C69, Palm Expo India in Mumbai May 30 – June 1.
