Crystal Cathedral

Creating a Broadway-Caliber Production in an Architectural Landmark, the Crystal Cathedral

The brainchild of Carol Schuller Miller, “Creation: Once Upon All Time” brings to life the creation story of Genesis - with the famed Crystal Cathedral as the backdrop. The landmark architectural feat created by Philip Johnson features more than 10,000 windows of tempered silver-colored glass within a skeleton of white steel trusses.

Founded 50 years ago by Dr. Robert H. Schuller, the Crystal Cathedral is the home base for the international Crystal Cathedral Ministries, including a congregation of over 10,000 members and the internationally televised series, “Hour of Power”. The structure is a most challenging environment for a house of worship in which audio and video play a regular role in services as well as in special shows. “Creation” is a temporary 6-week production that plays during the summer, designed to completely encompass the audience in the awesome splendour of the creation of the world.

“Creation” brings together an interactive, multi-media production with a 252’ x 28’ screen (the largest on the West Coast) showing high-resolution (9,500 pixels wide), large-scale puppets, 15 aerial acrobatic artists, surround sound, fog and wind generators, an array of customized scent cannons - and an incredibly intricate rigging job.
