Reinventing the welcome center experience
The recent opening of the Durango Welcome Center ushered in a new age of visitor center experience. Traditionally, while offering valuable information, welcome centers do not have the means to generate profit. With this knowledge, a wall of Christie® MicroTiles® was installed during the construction of the new Durango Welcome Center. The result was a stunning visual display that not only entertains and informs travelers visiting the small, culturally and historically-rich Colorado town, but also provides an innovative platform supporting an advertising-based revenue stream that benefits the municipality.
After submitting a proposal, global signage solution provider FASTSIGNS Durango won the tendered contract and was tasked with the design, installation, and setup of what would become the centerpiece of the new Durango Welcome Center. “The goal was to get people to come in and know what there is to do in Durango and get them to stay the extra day or two in the city, encouraging economic growth,” remarks Laurie Sigillito, owner of FASTSIGNS Durango on her company’s approach to the installation. Sigillito adds that the secondary goal of the installation was to provide a platform for advertising, saying: “they [also] wanted an advertising program, something that would generate revenue.”
