Christie makes a splash at Rio the Movie premiere
Lindo maravilhoso! Rio the Movie made its international debut in amazing color and style in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil thanks to a brilliant Christie projection solution. The new animated feature film by Twentieth Century Fox, which follows the story of colorful macaws Blu and Jewel through their adventures in the spicy South American hot spot, is a marvel of modern cinema. Offered in 3D in wide theater release starting April 15, the world premiere was viewed by hundreds of thousands of spectators in hi-res 2D projected onto the massive exterior surface of the famed Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio.
The event, which took place over two evenings in March 2011, was a huge undertaking for Christie partners
On Projecoes and Ponto Zero, as well as the film’s production company, Twentieth Century Fox. Said Tieres Tavares from
On Projecoes, “The production company, Twentieth Century Fox, wanted to launch the movie in big style using an iconic image of the city. There was thought of projecting onto the Sugar Loaf Mountains or even at the Christ the Redeemer Statue. But in the end, nobody could resist that big white wall of the Copacabana Palace — it was a natural canvas for high resolution projection!”
