Christie technology powers impressive ship simulators at the U.S. Naval Academy
Imagine being able to dock a ship in tight quarters, guide a submarine through rough seas, or change your location to 32 different harbors in one training session on dry land. Those dream-training scenarios are now a reality at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland, thanks to a powerful Christie® projection solution.
Beginning in 2009, the USNA embarked upon finding technical experts to construct and install two ship bridge simulators in their state-of-the-art educational facility. Responsible for training the U.S. Navy’s future leaders, the USNA required a highly specialized, consistently reliable projection solution that would run on a nearly 24/7 basis. The Academy required simulators capable of training midshipmen on any type of ship the Navy uses, including the newest Littoral Combat Ship models, as well as hosting a range of home port environments. With the aim of effectively preparing their graduates for worldwide deployment, the USNA turned to the experts at Kongsberg Maritime Simulation Inc. to advise what equipment would best support their intensive and very specific training needs.
