New exhibition celebrates Lisbon’s biggest park

July 26, 2021

LISBON, Portugal – Monsanto Forest Park, the largest green space in Lisbon, is celebrating its ninth decade with an exhibition using Christie® 1DLP®laser projection and LCD panels to bring the show’s different audiovisual experiences to life.

The park, a municipal protected forest known as the “lungs of Lisbon”, covers an area of around 1000 hectares (2471 acres) and contains over 250,000 trees and 103 species of birds. Created in the 1930s, today it is one of the main sources of pride for Lisboetas.

The exhibition, “9 Decades of the Monsanto Forest Park”, was conceived to explain the park’s history through a series of documents, videos and first-hand accounts of people associated with the park.

Have a Nice Day, which specializes in content creation, was commissioned to design and develop the exhibition. It, in turn, brought on board Christie to supply the audiovisual solutions through its local partner Total AV. “When the client asked us to develop and install the whole audiovisual system, we immediately thought of Christie because we were well- versed with the brand and the reliability and high quality of its equipment,” said Pascal Carvalho from Have a Nice Day.

One of the main exhibits in the show is a 2.8 x 1.5 metre (9 x 5 foot) projection directly on the wall. Using a Christie Captiva 1DLP, 4100 lumen projector, it features a series of interviews with various people who have been closely connected with the park.

“Thanks to its ultrashort throw lens, this projector can be mounted just a few centimetres from the wall or screen, either in landscape or portrait, which means that viewers can watch the videos from up close without the interruption of shadows. And, what’s more, it is really quiet,” explained Luis Carmo, Total AV’s sales manager.

Another of the exhibition’s audiovisual experiences is a 3.2 x 1.85 metre (10.5 x 6 foot) projection of a panoramic, immersive and sensorial film exploring Monsanto Forest Park, showcasing the beauty of the forest from inside. A Christie DWU635-GS projector, featuring 6,000 lumens and built-in warping capabilities, is used to project onto the concave wall.

In addition, the exhibition also uses Christie UHD551-L LCD panels to show a compilation of contemporary films and videos from the archives of RTP (Rádio e Televisão de Portugal) on the different activities available in the Monsanto Forest Park. This model is a budget-friendly, plug-and-play 55-inch LCD panel with 4K UHD resolution designed for 16/7 operation.

Luis Carmo, from Total AV, had this to say about the exhibition: “The various audiovisual attractions are really spectacular. Visitors are immersed in high-impact images which are only possible thanks to the power of the projection. And when you add the visually attractive and dynamic LCD panels, the experience is complete. We are delighted with the variety of audiovisual solutions on offer from Christie to bring our clients’ installations to life, and the current exhibition at Monsanto Forest Park is further proof.”

Ana Rita Ramos, from Have a Nice Day, is delighted with the performance of the Christie solutions used: “I can safely say that they were the ideal choices for the particular needs of the exhibition, and have proven themselves to be incredibly reliable.” And regarding the input of the Christie partner Total AV, she went on to add that: “They have given us fantastic post-sales service, and their whole team has been incredibly professional and accessible at all times.”
