LUOYANG, China – Christie® Crimson Series 3DLP laser projectors have transformed the Golden Summit at Mount Laojun into a canvas for a mesmerizing projection mapping display that redefines the boundaries of cultural storytelling and projection technology.

Located in Luanchuan County, Henan Province, the mountain is 2,184 meters (7,165 feet) high and serves as a renowned Taoist sanctuary, attracting countless visitors and pilgrims each year with its breathtaking scenery and magnificent temple complex. Now, a new lighting project for the Golden Summit complex enhances the experience, offering visitors an immersive journey into the millennia-old charm of Taoist culture.

Spearheaded by Beijing Zhongqing Display Technology, which oversaw project planning and construction, and utilizing six Christie Crimson WU32 laser projectors, the nighttime spectacle delivers a remarkable display of artistry and inspiration. This meticulously designed project aims to foster the region’s economic growth while preserving cultural heritage, offering a platform for cultural exchange that deepens appreciation and understanding of traditional customs.

“The Christie Crimson WU32 projectors were selected for their remarkable 32,000-lumen output, presenting vivid and clear visuals even in challenging conditions,” said Yangshun Jia, project manager, Beijing Zhongqing. “With their rugged yet compact design and exceptional image fidelity, these projectors deliver vibrant, accurate colors, bringing the Golden Summit’s architectural details, swirling mountain mists, Taoist symbols, and dynamic light and shadow transitions to life in stunning detail.”

Despite the challenges posed by Mount Laojun’s mountainous environment, including harsh weather conditions and uneven terrain, the team from Beijing Zhongqing overcame these obstacles through innovative solutions. Custom-designed enclosures were used to shield the projectors from extreme temperatures, humidity, and other environmental factors, ensuring their reliable performance. Additionally, precise planning and installation techniques addressed the complexities of the irregular landscape to achieve optimal projection effects.

Meanwhile, Beijing Zhongqing collaborated with Goldon Digital Creative to present an enchanting music and dance show titled Knowing Mount Laojun, staged at the Golden Summit complex. This live performance utilized 12 Christie DWU1082-GS laser projectors to deliver impressive visual effects, further immersing the audience in the cultural and artistic spectacle.

Reflecting on the project’s success, Jia noted, “From conception to execution, the projection mapping atop the Golden Summit of Mount Laojun has been hailed as a triumph by various stakeholders, with seamless coordination between lighting, sound, and projection systems delivering an unforgettable show. The integration of modern technology and timeless culture continues to captivate audiences, demonstrating how projection technology can elevate storytelling while driving economic and cultural development.”

Echoing these sentiments, April Qin, senior sales director for China, Enterprise, Christie, added, “We’re proud to see Christie technology bringing stories to life at Mount Laojun, known as the retreat of Laozi, founder of Taoism. The Crimson WU32 projectors’ ability to combine technical excellence with cultural storytelling exemplifies our commitment to enabling creative and immersive experiences to audiences across China.”
