SHANGHAI – Christie® is proud to continue its partnership with the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) for the 15th consecutive year, lighting up major screening venues from June 14-23 to celebrate the works of international and homegrown filmmakers.
This year’s festival, themed “City of Films,” celebrates Shanghai as the birthplace of Chinese cinema and symbolizes a journey towards a more beautiful life and better times. As a longstanding partner of this esteemed event, Christie is providing cinema projection and support for both the opening and closing ceremonies. Additionally, Christie cinema projectors are utilized for adjudicating films nominated for the Golden Goblet Award for Best Film.
Over 3,700 films from 105 countries and regions have been received for this year’s SIFF competition and screening. Selected films will be showcased across 53 venues in Shanghai, encompassing 47 theatres in 16 districts, including five new urban areas, as well as six theatres in neighboring cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Hefei. Many of these cinemas are fitted with the CINITY Cinema System and Dolby Cinema™, featuring Christie’s cutting-edge projection technology to deliver stunning visual experiences.
On June 15, the Christie CP4420-Xe cinema projector was deployed at the Shanghai Grand Theatre to screen the opening film Red Radio Over Shanghai, directed by Dasheng Zheng and Yi Cui, with Jiajun Wang and Jiejing Zhu in the leading roles. This is the second consecutive year that Christie’s advanced CineLife+ Series cinema projector boasting ultrafast electronics processing and excellent image performance is used at the SIFF.
“As we mark our 15th consecutive year of partnership with the SIFF, we’re honored by the festival’s continued trust in our cinema projection technology to deliver spectacular visuals to audiences,” says James Li, executive director, China Cinema, Christie. “This collaboration allows us to faithfully present filmmakers’ visions and elevate the moviegoing experience. Christie also shares the SIFF’s mission of cultivating new talent and emerging filmmakers, making the event an ideal platform to nurture the rising power of Asian cinema.”
The renowned Shanghai Film Art Center, a primary venue for the SIFF, has recently undergone a major refurbishment. Now equipped with the latest CineLife+ Series projection systems featuring Real|Laser illumination, including the CP4420-RGB, CP4425-RGB, and CP4450-RGB models, filmgoers can enjoy SIFF screenings with bright, crisp on-screen images for an unforgettable viewing experience.
Besides the SIFF, Christie’s cinema projection technologies have illuminated screens at renowned film festivals worldwide, including the Cannes Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival, and the Toronto International Film Festival, with which Christie maintains longstanding partnerships. These prestigious events offer Christie an unparalleled opportunity to enthrall audiences with innovative projection technology, bringing filmmakers’ artistic visions to life with vivid clarity.
Now in its 26th edition, SIFF brings together Chinese and international film professionals to explore technological innovation and cooperation. The festival continues to support emerging talents and advance Chinese cinema. Founded in 1993, SIFF is China’s only FIAPF-accredited competitive film festival, emphasizing awards, markets, forums, and exhibitions to foster an international platform and promote the growth of the Chinese film industry.
