France
Under the French Decree on the Prevention and Management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) which came into force on 13th August 2005, the financing of collection and recycling of any waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) arising from equipment bought before 13th August 2005 is the customers responsibility. This is regardless of whether the equipment is being replaced by a new piece of equipment from Christie. Equipment purchased before 13th August 2005 is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, Christie is required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from Christie after 13th August 2005, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
Often when manufacturers and suppliers experience an increase in their operational costs, these costs are passed on to the customer and reflected in an increased market price for their goods and services or even the introduction of hidden surcharges. We want Christie products to remain competitively priced and as a company we recognize we have a responsibility to our environment.
We believe our customers' and partners share this view and with this in mind Christie has taken the following approach to the new WEEE regulations:
- Christie pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the France WEEE Regulations.
- Christie pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Environment Agency to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the France WEEE Regulations.
- Christie's pricing will not change as a consequence of meeting WEEE regulations.
In return we are asking our customers to pay for the cost of transportation of your WEEE to Christie's appointed recycler in France and help us better dispose and recycle unwanted, waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Christie customers sending equipment for recycling are advised that you MUST remove all batteries PRIOR to collection in order to avoid the equipment being classed as hazardous waste under the EU Hazardous Waste Directive.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to EARN. Under Decree 98-679 1998 Relating to Road Transport, the Trade and the Broking of Waste, you are free to use any carrier you wish to collect and transport non-hazardous WEEE to the EARN recycler, providing the total weight of equipment to be transported is less than 500kg.
