Avatar: The Way of Water sets the stage at HPA tech retreat

Christie’s roots in cinema go back almost 65 years, so we know a thing or two about cinema projectors and advancements in technology. We were pleased to support this year’s HPA Tech Retreat with cinema projectors – the Christie CP4425-RGB (25K lumens) and Christie CP4420-Xe (22K lumens), and we worked alongside GDC Technology, who provided the high frame IMBs, and RealD for the screens.

Christie cinema projectors and technical expertise supported the annual tech retreat of the Hollywood Professional Association (HPA), a non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing, education and connecting businesses in the media and entertainment industry with cinema projectors and technical support.

Christie’s senior technical manager Judson Cross describes the biggest technical challenge. “We had to find a way to present two synchronized screens to cover a wide seating area with the highest possible frame rate and the highest possible brightness,” he says. “Christie worked closely with GDC Technology to ensure seamless - and perfectly synchronized - delivery of content via the company's playback servers.”
