São Paulo, Brazil - Christie® Boxer projectors were behind the spectacular projection mappings that took place in December past on the façade of the Palácio dos Leões (Lions Palace), the seat of the government of the Maranhão state in Brazil. Conceived as part of the annual Christmas celebrations organized by the local city council, the rental and staging company Academia do Show undertook the role of installation and operation of the projection system for this exceptional visual experience.
Thousands of people turned out at night in the streets of the old quarters of São Luís, the capital city of Maranhão, declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, to see Natal de Todos, the series of events organized by the local authorities to celebrate Christmas.
The main event took place at the façade of the Lions Palace, which was used as a screen to display animations of the wealth of the region’s culture as well as a series of Christmas contents that were projected each evening onto a 1000 square meters, irregular surface. The animations were created by Estúdio Preto e Branco, an award-winning creative studio.
The goal was to create a big impact, and the best way to do it was projection mapping. So right from the word go, Academia do Show knew that only Christie Boxer projectors would guarantee the power, brightness and resolution required for the job, offering clear display images with great detail.
Academia do Show got down to work immediately and designed a matrix of four Christie Boxer 4K30 projectors. With a resolution of 12300 x 1080 pixels, the contents were launched from PC servers using Resolume Arena software.
One of the biggest challenges was to ensure that the audio-visual equipment would be ready for the event; given that Academia do Show had little time to install and fine-tune the projectors. In that sense, mapping a façade of this size requires an enormous amount of work to adapt the content to be seen naturally and with impeccable quality on such an irregular surface.
The expert team of technicians and engineers of this rental and staging company quickly aligned and calibrated the images to be projected onto the façade with a total of 120,000 lumens, meeting all the deadlines in the timeline.
The mapping was a resounding success that impressed its audiences, due in no small part to the performance of the Christie Boxer projectors. “Christie Boxer projectors had everything we needed - lightweight, brightness, 4K resolution, as well as the reliability you need with a high profile event,” said Jose Algusto, Academia do Show. “And Christie’s service and support in Brazil added to the technical skill of its team, being instrumental in the success of this project,” he added.
Daniel Monteiro Pereira, Sales Manager, Christie Brazil, commented: “We are very happy to help Academia do Show to produce this fantastic show. The usage of Christie Boxer projectors has certainly contributed to achieve the objective of entertaining the public and delivering a fantastic shared experience.”
